GLAMOUR had the pleasure of catching Beauty and The Beast and it was truly a remarkable experience! Belle’s iconic yellow gown was simply breathtaking. Emma Watson shared with us her experience wearing the enchanting ball gown, describing it as “perfect” and a “joy” to dance in.

Created by Jacqueline Durran, an award-winning costume designer, the costumes for each character in the movie were meticulously planned with meticulous attention to detail. A major hurdle was recreating Belle’s iconic ball gown, as fans had a strong attachment to her classic yellow dress from the animated film. Many conversations took place about the design, color, and fabric to ensure that the essence of the beloved costume was captured in the live-action adaptation.

Jacqueline discussed the thought process behind choosing the yellow dress for our film, which was inspired by the animated version. The goal was to put a modern spin on it by incorporating intricate details and making it look more realistic. The final product was a breathtaking gown made from numerous layers of light satin organza in a bold yellow hue (equivalent to 180 feet), carefully designed in a sweeping circular shape, and meticulously put together using 3,000 feet of thread.

The highest two levels were embellished with an intricate gold leaf design, influenced by the exquisite Rococo floor pattern in the ballroom. Additionally, they were adorned with a remarkable 2,160 shimmering Swarovski crystals.
